About

“THERE’S NO RETIREMENT FOR AN ARTIST, IT’S YOUR WAY OF LIVING SO THERE’S NO END TO IT.”

   – HENRY MOORE

Mae Mougin

Porcelain is my clay of choice for the past twenty five years. The smoothness and elegance of porcelain enhances my work by my touch.

Graduate, BFA The San Francisco Art Institute 1972. Attended The Parsons, School of Design  Ceramics Program ’90’s

I am a very proud Mother of Solange, Zoe and Jean. Deliciously loving being a grandmother to  Ninon, Lalie and Jasmin.

Now relocated in  London  from New York to attend The  RCA’s  Postgraduate Masters Degree  in Ceramic and Glass.

My discipline is now to capture motion, with water patterns, moving lines and textures with my iPhone. With the digital iPhone photographs, I make a selection to emboss, print, press, paint  or screen on porcelain. My vision is to Capture the flow of nature’s lines, the abstract chaos in water.

My  Studio is home in Southampton, New York and was established in 1998, as MaeMouginStudio LLC.  For  twenty years, I produced commissioned work for clients in the world of the arts and interior decoration.   Bespoke custom dinnerware was the core of my business. I was one of the founding members of The Ceramic Guild of The Hamptons with The Celadon Gallery in Watermill.  Robert Wilson’s WATERMILL Center, opened in the late ’90’s. We established a community board and I served as The Community Board Chair for five years. I continue to support The WATERMILL CENTER   as a Global Ambassador. I am a proud member and a Lieutenant  of East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue, a non profit organization. Our mission is to Save Lives and prevent drownings.

Attending The RCA is an exploration in my practice and finding inspiration with the Lathe, plaster, slip casting, silk screen and glass. The focus this year will be one of a kind pieces with the vision of water flowing seen in an abstract way of motion.

My goal after the completion of my Masters Degree at The Royal College of Art will be to reopen my studio in Southampton, NY
