About

My practice is motivated by a curiosity into how soft materials can shape and fold themselves in alternative ways that can enhance the visual and haptic experience. I explore the themes of expansion and contraction, movement and dynamic textural and 3D effects through folding techniques such as origami, pleating and studying the interplay between fibres, woven structures and finishing techniques. I enjoy experimenting with a range of materials, from wools, silk steels, paper yarns, magnets and more to create lively, fun and interactive textiles. The process of designing often involves folding paper maquettes to plan the forms, yarn windings to inform colour and yarn choices, writing many different woven structure variations and a lot of trial and error trying to successfully combine colour, structure and fibre choices. I am further encouraged to consider how the development of more adaptable and unexpected textile outcomes can incentivise longevity of use.
