A Life Card Game
About
What are your feelings about getting older? Is it something you look forward to? Think about? Plan for?
Media and advertisements have no problem reminding us to purchase, participate, and engage in anything anti-aging. Creams, serums, pills, diets, and “lifestyle” all angled towards selling us our younger “better” self or stopping time itself. With so much of what we see and hear directed at this anti-aging campaign, it’s hard to have a positive outlook on what is inevitably ahead of us. Aging. Does this avoidance to culturally embrace aging also create an avoidance in having conversations about aging?
We as a group asked this question, and from our conversation “A Life…” was born. We feel that there is so much to look forward to when it comes to “gaining years” in life. Time gives us perspective, knowledge, experience, and hopefully a good sense of humor to tackle and overcome everything life throws at us. We’re in this together, so what better way to talk about this topic than with each other through a game!! A Life… is a question/group response game that we think evokes some positive and fun commentary on aging.
We pooled together a range of silly to serious question, with hopes of keeping the game engaged while also challenging aging norms. Examples from the game would be…“How will I celebrate my 100th birthday?” to “What scares me most about aging” We hope this game generates conversations, laughs, and bonding amongst friends by encouraging players to see aging not as a bad thing, but as an inevitable journey with more positive than negatives.
