About
Our project focuses on the issue of discarded styrofoam boxes at Billingsgate Market and presents the evolution of this environmental crisis through future archaeology.
Through field research, we observed that styrofoam boxes are heavily used for seafood transport, but are often carelessly discarded, breaking into microplastics that fish ingest. Based on this, we envision a future worsened by plastic pollution—fish mutate to feed on plastic, and instead of acting, humans worship these mutated fish, immersing themselves in entertainment until the world is consumed by the “plastic-eating fish.”
Visually, we combine fish rubbing techniques and digital processing, drawing inspiration from the He Luo fish in Shan Hai Jing to create the “plastic-eating fish” image. We also use AI-generated reference images to create a long scroll depicting a future ecological scenario.
Our team members take on the role of future archaeologists who survived this disaster, presenting the story through an artistic archaeological lens, prompting reflection on the profound impact of plastic pollution on ecology and civilization.
