About

Our project explores how people enter a semi-trance-like state—marked by vacant expressions and calm demeanors—when disconnected from the internet on the London Underground. The subway has become one of the few remaining social spaces in the 21st century where people gather without network access. In this “robotic” state, while outwardly still, the mind continues to engage in complex thought processes.

We will create an immersive video experience that simulates brain activity in this hazy, disconnected state. The video will combine glitch aesthetics, fluid abstract motion, generative patterns, and immersive soundscapes to reflect the transition from outward stupor to inner vitality. Using the subway as a symbolic setting, the visual effects will reimagine the fragmented thinking, subconscious drift, and spontaneous mental associations that emerge as passengers initialize a state of “doing nothing.
