The Dream Collective

An exploration of an alternative waiting area at the Lawson Practice Workshop, 2025.

About

We are an artist collective from the Royal College of Art, seeking to improve the experience of spending time in London Hospitals (NHS). Our motivation is to engage the public’s imagination in waiting areas to improve and contribute to their surrounding environments. At our stalls and tables in hospitals we wish to act as an invitation to those waiting. By helping them to imagine the space they would want to be in, we aim to contribute to a collective “otherwise” through conversation, reflection, drawing, and engagement with our provided archive materials on waiting areas and clinical spaces. We wish to socially and spatially re-centre notions of “care” through embodied practice to institutionalised spaces devoted to caring practices. By inviting the public to join us in dreaming an other space to their current environment, we aim to foreground feelings of hope and playfulness, stepping away from dissociative and asocial spaces. The outcome of all this work we hope is the fostering of a caring conversation aided by co-creating future environments together.
