Waiting for the Sun
About
Waiting for the Sun is an art installation that explores the emotional challenges of winter, particularly focusing on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and our universal longing for warmth, light, and renewal.
Inspired by a serene moment at Hyde Park’s lake, where sunlight gently filters through clouds and reflects beautifully upon the water, this installation replicates these soothing natural effects through carefully designed lighting.
Core Elements
- Dynamic lampshade: Crafted from coloured metal wires, fibre optics, and photochromic threads, capable of smoothly expanding and contracting.
- Natural light simulation: As the lampshade opens and closes, the installation mimics the gradual transition from cloudy to sunny weather.
- Sparkling water effects: Illuminated fibre optics at the lampshade’s edges replicate sparkling sunlight reflections on water.
This interplay of light and shadow creates a warm, relaxing, and comforting atmosphere—helping re-establish an emotional connection to sunlight, warmth, and renewal.
