Chenrui Zhang
About
Chenrui’s work explores the tension between adornment and control through jewellery. During her time at the RCA, she investigated Mongolian ornament traditions, drawing on symbolic motifs and dynamic structures to express hidden meanings beneath decorative surfaces. Her jewellery shifts—opening, sliding, or transforming—to tell stories of identity, power, and quiet humour. Through making, she reimagines cultural language into playful, wearable forms that invite touch, curiosity, and reflection.
Through making, Chenrui not only reflects on cultural narratives and personal identity, but also hopes to contribute—however subtly—to a more thoughtful, compassionate world. Her jewellery carries questions, stories, and moments of connection, inviting others to pause, feel, and perhaps see things differently.
