Kaiying Qian
About
Kaiying Qian 钱凯颖 (b. 1999, Zhejiang, China) studied Fine Art Photography at The Glasgow School of Art and is currently continuing her practice in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art.
Her work spans photojournalism, archival art, and transmedia practices, often exploring the intersections of different materials and mediums. She is particularly drawn to the tension between organic and inorganic materials, as well as the traces of life and decay embedded within objects. Her practice frequently engages with archives and texts, uncovering personal and collective histories that intersect with themes of social issues, feminism, identity, history, and cultural contrasts. In recent works, she has experimented with sculptural and photographic approaches, examining the ways in which natural and human-made elements disrupt and transform one another. As a Chinese female artist, she brings a nuanced perspective to these themes, using interdisciplinary methods to explore the complexities of cultural narratives and individual experiences.
